UNI sets wrestling schedule

CEDAR FALLS - A Dec. 19 dual against state rival Iowa State highlights a six-meet 2009-2010 home schedule for the University of Northern Iowa wrestling team.

The Panthers open their season with intrasquad wrestle-offs Oct. 31 before heading to the Northwestern Duals Nov. 14 where they will start the regular season against Stanford, Eastern Michigan and Purdue.

The schedule also includes a Nov. 22 trip to the Sprawl and Brawl in Binghamton, N.Y., where UNI tangles with Michigan State, Rutgers and Harvard, along with a visit to defending national champion Iowa Dec. 10. The Panthers also compete at the Midlands Championships in Evanston, Ill., Dec. 29-30 and the NWCA National Duals in the UNI-Dome Jan. 9-10.

The rest of the home schedule includes meets against Wisconsin, Northern Colorado, South Dakota State, North Dakota State and Air Force.

After the regular season, UNI will attempt to capture its 25th straight West Regional title March 6 as South Dakota State plays host to the NCAA West Regional Championships. The Panthers then wrap up the season March 18-20 at the NCAA Championships in Omaha, Neb.
