GREELEY, Colo. - The University of Northern Iowa wrestling team's domination of the NCAA West Regional continued Saturday at Butler-Hancock Hall on the University of Northern Colorado's campus.

The Panthers captured their 24th straight regional title and earned six automatic berths into the 2009 NCAA Championships which begin Thursday at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis. Northern Iowa finished with 94 team points, while Wyoming was a close second with 92.5.

"I think we were the front-runner the whole time and I think what happened was that we had two good teams going at it," UNI coach Brad Penrith said. "A lot of times that's what happens in these small tournaments, points are going to be close. Wyoming wrestled a great tournament and I thought we wrestled a pretty good tournament ourselves. … I was happy with the overall performance of our guys."

Redshirt freshman Trent Washington (141), Moza Fay (165), Andrew Anderson (197) and Christian Brantley (Hwy.) each won individual regional championships for UNI. Alex Dolly (184) earned an automatic bid with his second place finish. Trevor Kittleson (149) won his true-second match over North Dakota State's Ryan Adams, 7-6, to become UNI's sixth automatic qualifier.

Fay's 19-8 finals victory over Alex Rieder of Wyoming gave him a third consecutive regional title. He also earned the tournament's Outstanding Wrestler honor.

"He's wrestling extremely well," Penrith said. "He got a pin and scored 19 points in the finals. (Rieder) got banged up a little bit and Moza could have gone after the kid and gone after his injury, but he didn't. He just went out and wrestled. His sportsmanship and scoring points I think won a lot of the coaches over."

TEAM STANDINGS - UNI 94, Wyoming 92.5, Northern Colorado 70.5, North Dakota State 39.5, South Dakota State 24.5, Air Force 12.5
