CEDAR FALLS - University of Northern Iowa athletics director Troy Dannen announced today that Colin McDonough has been named the school's assistant athletics director for athletics communication. McDonough has been serving in that position in an interim capacity since July.

An Osceola native, McDonough has served as UNI's associate director of media relations since 2005. In his role, McDonough was responsible for the day-to-day publicity of UNI's football, wrestling and women's golf programs.

The 2006 UNI football media guide earned CoSIDA's "Best Cover in the Nation" award. McDonough was named the National Wrestling Media Association's SID/Publicist of the Year in 2006.

McDonough will serve as the football and men's basketball contact in 2009-10.
