
WATERLOO - A pair of tiebreaker victories helped propel Evansville past the University of Northern Iowa women's tennis team, 4-3, Saturday at the Black Hawk Tennis Club.
The loss dropped UNI to 0-2 in the Missouri Valley Conference and 11-5 overall. Evansville improved to 8-5, 1-1 MVC.
After losing the doubles point, Evansville rallied to win the first four singles matches. The Purple Aces came up with clutch wins at No. 2 and 3 where Ashton Schwerin edged UNI's Phoebe Walker 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) and Pin Sorensen defeated Sampada Kanade 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (7-3).
UNI took an early lead with doubles wins from Laia Gonzalez-Garrido and Walker and Taynara Moraes and Jessica Kunzelmann.
Northern Iowa also earned straight-set singles wins from Diana Mendez and Moraes.
