DES MOINES - Northern Iowa's record-setting softball regular season came to an end Sunday when the Panthers fell to Drake, 2-1, in a 10-inning game here.

UNI scored its only run in the top of the first inning when Rachel Gerking's base hit brought home Mackenize Daigh. Through the balance of the game, the Panthers went to the bench often for the reserves.

Meanwhile, UNI collected just five hits against Drake pitcher Jenna DeLong, who struck out a career-high 14 batters.

Drake tied the game in the bottom of the seventh and won it in the 10th. Elena Leon singled, stole second and scored on a base hit by Torey Craddock against relief pitcher Melissa Tillett.

Nonetheless, the Panthers finished regular-season play with 15 Missouri Valley Conference victories, the most for UNI since it joined the league 16 years ago. Overall, head coach Ryan Jacobs' team has 34 wins, the most for the program since 1996.

The Panthers also qualified for MVC postseason play for the first time in seven years. Seeded third, UNI will meet the winner of the Missouri State-Bradley game Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at Peoria, Ill.
