MINNEAPOLIS - The University of Northern Iowa baseball team rallied from five runs down to clip 25th-ranked Minnesota, 9-7, Wednesday night in the Metrodome.

After trailing 6-1, the Panthers scored six runs in the sixth inning to snare a 7-6 lead.

Then, after the Gophers knotted the game at seven, Jeff Taliaferro broke the tie with a two out, two-run double in the eighth for the game-winner.

Taliaferro was 2-for-4 with three RBIs for UNI (12-13), while Cory Ege and Brett Douglas each had two hits and scored a pair of runs.

UNI used six hits and capitalized on a pair of Minnesota errors and a wild pitch in the sixth inning to score six runs.

Minnesota (14-8) had 14 hits against UNI pitching but stranded 14 baserunners. Reliever Ivan Lopez earned the win and Shuhei Fujiya pitched the ninth for his fifth save of the season.

UNI used seven pitchers in the game.

It was the Panthers' fourth consecutive victory over the Gophers and second this year.

UNI returns to action Friday against Indiana State at 6 p.m. at Riverfront Stadium.
