Iowa City West (0-1) at

No. 10 Waterloo West (1-0)

Time: 7:30 p.m.

Location: Memorial Stadium

Last meeting: The Wahawks outscored Iowa City West 43-30 last season for a 2-0 start to the season.

Last time out: Waterloo West stormed to a 34-0 season-opening victory over Dubuque Senior. Dubuque Hempstead defeated Iowa City West, 38-21.

Key stat: Waterloo West was penalized 117 yards in its opener. The Wahawks will look to improve on that number this week.

What to watch: Both teams feature explosive spread offenses and plenty of speed. Iowa City West returns its featured tailback, Jamal Thompson, a senior who rushed for a team-high 643 yards last season. Tayler Bontrager, a 1,528-yard passer from a year ago, has moved from quarterback to receiver. Waterloo West quarterback Connor McClain is coming off his first varsity start in which he completed 9 of 17 passes for 189 yards.

West coach Lonnie Moore: "I think we really have got to make sure we make more improvement this week. I told the team we should make the most improvement from the first to second week. … Both teams have got a lot of athletes so we look for it to be a really fast game."
