WATERLOO - Sometimes, you can get too much of a good thing.

Waterloo East and Wapsie Valley have probably seen enough of each other for awhile.

The Warriors (13-1) won the Eileen Beninga Wahawk Invitational volleyball tournament Saturday at Bob Siddens Gymnasium by defeating the Trojans 25-19, 25-19.

The two teams faced off early in the day in pool play, and that was also won by the Warriors.

The Trojans answered back during the bracket play-in brought about by a three-way tie as they tripped up the Warriors, 15-8.

"I'll tell you what, between them and Don Bosco, we have seen enough for one day," Warriors coach Jolissa Ohrt said. "We started out slow but finished strong, as we got better with each game."

"It was an awesome match as it just kept going back-and-forth," Trojan coach Ali Rahnavardi said. "We played a lot of top ranked teams today, and we fought them hard."

Don Bosco brought a No. 2 ranking in Class 1A to the tourney, Wapsie Valley came in undefeated and ranked third in Class 2A, and the Trojans just slipped out of the Class 4A rankings Friday.

"We came in with a little chip after those rankings came out," Rahnavardi said. "We put out a good showing today."

The Warriors' big gun, senior middle hitter Eryca Hingtgen, had a chip of her own as she scorched the floor with some thunderous kills.

"We had our homecoming last night and we were a little tired coming here," Hingtgen said. "But we came through as a team and won it again. It's a new year with a new start and we are ready to go."

"This was a great tournament with a lot of good quality teams involved," Waterloo West coach Dave Hirsch said. "I was very happy with the way our girls played today. Our girls are starting to play with intensity and I really like that."
