WATERLOO - Waterloo West got clutch performances from its three upperclassmen as the Wahawks celebrated Senior Night Tuesday with a pair of come-from-behind victories over Cedar Rapids Prairie, 5-2 and 3-2.
The wins ran West's winning streak to 16 consecutive games and allowed the Wahawks to remain 1 1/2 games behind Dubuque Wahlert in the Mississippi Valley Conference's Mississippi Division.
Trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the sixth inning in game one, West exploded for five runs. The key blow was a two-run double by senior Cassie Horak. Kelli Joens, another senior, finished 2-for-3.
The nightcap was knotted at 2-2 until senior Tarrin Ott belted a game-winning home run in the bottom of the sixth inning. Ott was 2-for-3 with two RBIs in the game.
"The seniors stepped up their play tonight," said West coach Kelly Nelson. "All three did a nice job on Senior Night."
West, which improved to 23-11 overall and 15-7 in conference play, hosts Dubuque Senior tonight at 5:30 p.m. Prairie fell to 13-19 overall and 10-14 in MVC play.

Wahlert silences Trojan offense
DUBUQUE - Waterloo East managed just one run over 16 innings Tuesday while dropping a 1-0, 5-1 Mississippi Valley Conference softball doubleheader to Dubuque Wahlert.
In game one, a pitching duel between East's Kylie Rash and Wahlert's Brianna Bannon stretched into the ninth inning before Erin Skahill singled in the game-winning run for the Golden Eagles.
Amanda Magnuson's solo home run in the fifth inning of game two represented the only run all day for East, which slipped to 21-14 overall and 13-11 in the MVC.
The Trojans host Waterloo West in a doubleheader Thursday.

I.C. West rolls past Tigers twice
CEDAR FALLS - Iowa City West beat Cedar Falls with pitching, defense and hitting Tuesday night.
The Women of Troy got a one-hitter from Mackenzie Haight and a 10-hit offensive attack to win the opening game, 10-0 in five innings, then broke open a tight second game with four runs in the seventh for the sweep, 9-3.
"They kept us off-balance at the plate in the first game," said Cedar Falls coach Tammy Utley.
Alison Jaynes' two-run single in the fourth inning of game two pulled the Tigers within 4-2, but that was as close as they could get.
Cedar Falls fell to 18-16 overall and 11-13 in the Mississippi Valley Conference and will host Waverly-Shell Rock today for Senior Night.
