DUBUQUE - Waterloo West's bats broke out in a big way Thursday, spurring a softball sweep of fourth-ranked Dubuque Wahlert, 15-11 and 7-5.
Jadyn Spencer keyed West's offensive carnage, hammering three home runs on the night, two in the opener.
Cassie Knutson also aided West's effort in an opener that featured an 11-run Wahawk third inning, as she went 3-for-5 with three RBIs.
Rebekah Doering led West in the nightcap, going 3-for-3 with two runs, and MacKenzie VanDenBerg hit a three-run, go-ahead home run in the fifth for the Wahawks..
"Once we got started, we knew it would be contagious," said West coach Kelly Nelson. "We were really patient at the plate. … The kids had a lot of fun."
Wahlert, now 21-6, was led by the two home runs of Northern Iowa recruit Sam Reimer.
The Wahawks (9-11, 7-7 MVC) visit Waterloo Columbus tonight.
