
WAVERLY - A large field of high school girls opened their indoor track season Tuesday at the Wartburg College Wellness Center.
Hudson's girls showcased their depth with strong finishes in three relays. The Pirates' 4x200 combination of Hillary Garvey, Jessi Sorensen, Holly Halstead and Marisa Evers placed first in 1:50.24. Garvey, Jenna Brandhorst, Halstead and Evers were third in the 4x400 meter relay in 4:11.75, and Lauren Oltmann, Claire Hawkins, Sami Henke and Katey Johnson finished fifth in the 4x800 in 10:30.04. Individually, Sorensen finished second in the 200-meter dash in 27.68, and Hannah Garvey was fifth in the 3,000-meter run in 11:52.46.
Waterloo West's Jadyn Spencer led the way for metro participants in the field events with a runner-up shot put throw of 39-0.
Cedar Falls had a variety of fourth-place finishes. Molly Youde was fourth in high jump at 5-foot. The Tigers' 1,600 sprint medley relay of Jaqueline Jordan, Brianne Hutchins, Cassie Crotty and Paige Hersom finished fourth in 4:30.21, and Cara Strike, Alana Alberts, Monica Anton and Hannah Savage were fourth in the 4x800 relay.
Wapsie Valley standout Katy Moen finished second to Dowling Catholic's Katie Flood with a time of 5:08.31 in the 1,500-meter run.
Rachel Peth led Waverly-Shell Rock with a fourth-place effort of 27.75 in the 200-meter run. Teammate Kilei Carmichael was fifth in the 55-meter hurdles in 9.17.
Valley Community was led by Kylee Olson's fourth-place long jump of 15-2. The Tigers' Lexi Friedman, Marla Metzger, Megan Moyle and Megan Dummermuth finished fifth in 4:35.85 in the 1,600 sprint medley. Moyle was also fifth in the 400-meter dash in 1:05.28.
