Crestwood girls roll past Riceville

RICEVILLE - The highly regarded Crestwood girls' basketball squad highlighted Monday night's action in Northeast Iowa, as it outscored host Riceville, 44-18, in the opening half and cruised to a season-opening 76-44 victory.

Three Cadets scored in double figures, led by Kayla Kubik with 17 points and Ashley Kovarik with 16.

CRESTWOOD - Shelly Grube 2, Kayla Kubik 17, Emma Baker 3, Emily Novotny 5, Molly Reicks 1, Jessica Stika 11, Karn Anderson 2, Mollie Sir 8, Ashley Kovarik 16, Tara Moellers 11.

RICEVILLE - Cambria Berentsen 10, Marissa Yorgey 4, Abby Swancutt 2, Kelsey Reddel 2, Victoria Christensen 2, Maria Green 8, Katerina Bohr 2, Brooke Foster 6, Amanda Eggerichs 8.

NASHUA-PLAINFIELD 35, SUMNER-FREDERICKSBURG 30 - At Sumner, Nashua Plainfield defeated host Sumner Fredricksburg in the four-team tournament finals.

Nashua-Plainfield's Alicia Martin scored 12 points, pulled down six rebounds and had two assists to help change the momentum in the game and record a victory for the Huskies.

NEW HAMPTON 63, DUNKERTON 38 - At New Hampton, the Chickasaws pounded Dunkerton, thanks in large part to Kelsey Glaser's 16 points.

Beth Kuenstling paced Dunkerton with 16 points.

GMG 52, SOUTH HARDIN 46 - At Eldora, GMG (Garwin's) Tara Gray scored 23 points in a victory over South Hardin, while South Hardin's Addie Hillmer had 18 points and pulled down 11 rebounds and recorded two steals in the loss.

GMG improves its record to 1-1 on the season.

BELLE PLAINE 51, NORTH TAMA 22 - At Traer, North Tama fell to Belle Plaine as Dani Coover scored a game-high 22 points to aid Belle Plaine. Kelsey Upah led the Redhawks with nine points.
