Area volleyball roundup: Don Bosco sweeps BGM, reaches 1A final

BROOKLYN - Second-ranked Don Bosco of Gilbertville advanced to the 1A regional finals with a sweep of BGM of Brooklyn, 25-12, 25-17, 25-18.

Allison Rottinghaus logged 10 kills and Abby Brightbach had 21 assists and 10 digs.

The Dons overtook the Bears in the first set fairly easily, but BGM pulled themselves together for game two.

Don Bosco, however, got stronger down the stretch with Alaina Rigdon adding seven kills, and Anne Weber contributing three blocks as the Dons improved to 32-4.

Ventura, meanwhile, beat North Butler in five, 22-25, 25-23, 25-19, 10-25, 15-11 in a 1A regional at Clear Lake.

No. 4 AGWSR sweeps Iowa Christian

COLO - Macy Ubben registered 15 kills and 11 digs as the fourth-ranked AGWSR rolled over Iowa Christian Academy, 25-12, 25-8, 25-9, in a 1A regional semifinal.

Jess McDowell added eight kills and Abbye Fryslie had 12 digs. Kelsey Enslin had 33 assists and four aces and Jenna Boyle earned five blocks for the Cougars (34-4).

"We started off a little gun shy at first from the service line, but after we got settled in, we really controlled the match the rest of the night," Cougar coach Adam Bosch said.

Lake Mills knocks off N. Fayette

CHARLES CITY - Sixth-ranked Lake Mills rolled past North Fayette of West Union, 25-21, 25-19, 25-22, in a 2A regional semifinals. North Fayette's season ended at 20-11.

Aplington-Parkersburg advances

WAVERLY - Aplington-Parkersburg Falcons upset ninth-ranked Starmont in a 2A regional semifinal, 16-25, 25-17, 27-25, 25-18.

The Falcons (23-13) play Lake Mills at Mason City Newman High School on Tuesday.
