C.F. offense produces in MVC split

CEDAR FALLS - Cedar Falls' offense appeared ready for the postseason Monday as the Tigers tallied 13 runs while splitting a Mississippi Valley Conference doubleheader against Iowa City West.

The Trojans won the opener, 14-7, before Cedar Falls bounced back to win the nightcap, 6-4.

Joe Schwickerath went 3-for-4 with two RBIs in the first game, but I.C. West's Josh Deboer belted a pair of homers and knocked in six runs. Four errors also plagued the Tigers.

With Cedar Falls leading 1-0 in game two behind the pitching of Jarrod Alberts, Schwickerath hammered a key home run in the third inning and Jeff Conrad provided some breathing room in the fourth with a two-run single.

Cedar Falls (7-27) will take on Waterloo West Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Trojans absorb pair of road defeats

CEDAR RAPIDS - Cedar Rapids Jefferson ushered Waterloo East out of the regular season Monday with a 17-1, 13-0 sweep.

The first three Jefferson batters reached base in game one before a Logan Hollingsworth grand slam.

East's lone run of the day came when Justin Koweil singled in Nate Schutte in the third inning of the opener.

The Trojans (1-26) open district play at Mason City Friday.
