
WATERLOO - The Cedar Falls girls' soccer team prevailed in a thrilling 4-3 shootout victory over Iowa City High Thursday afternoon at the Cedar Valley Soccer Complex.
With the game tied 3-3 after double overtime, Cedar Falls' combination of Courtney Dreyer, Lindsey Morris, Emily Hester, Haley Patterson and Melanie Adrian made four of five shootout attempts. The Tigers' goalkeeper Rachel Zhorne made two shootout saves, and City High converted on just two of its shootout attempts.
Cedar Falls' regulation goals came from Kenna Nelson, Amelia McMurrin and Dreyer.
NU HIGH GIRLS 7, CONO CHRISTIAN 0 - At Walker, the NU High girls' soccer team improved to 4-4 in convincing fashion. Jesse Lankford tallied four goals to lead the Panthers past Cono Christian. Heather Oelman, Karen Engels and Taryn Moyer also scored goals for NU High. Alex Pircer recorded 12 saves in the shutout.
COLUMBUS GIRLS 4, MARION 0 - At Waterloo, tenth-ranked Waterloo Columbus improved to 11-1 by dominating its home finale against Marion.
The Sailors' Michelle Schupbach, Emily Letkewicz and Regan McLaughlin each scored first half goals. Alison Beyer tallied two assists and Letkewicz added one in the opening half. Katie Conway scored the fourth goal unassisted 13 minutes into the second half.
IOWA CITY HIGH BOYS 2, CEDAR FALLS 1 - At Iowa City, Cedar Falls was defeated by Iowa City High in a penalty kick shootout.
Andrew Schleisman gave the Tigers a 1-0 lead with his goal in the 25th minute. City High scored with 10 minutes remaining to send the game into overtime. In the shootout, both teams made four of five shots. City High earned the win on its sixth shooter.
Cedar Falls goalkeeper Alex Clopton finished with seven saves.
