WATERLOO - On what turned out to be a beautiful Monday at Gates Park, the Cedar Falls girls' golf team took a 17-stroke advantage into the day and never looked back in claiming a Mississippi Valley Conference divisional crown.
The Tigers placed all six golfers on the all-conference team while shooting a round of 390. Host Waterloo East posted a 434 while finishing fifth.
Leading the way for the Tigers was Sam Heinen, who finished second in the medalist chase at 171 after a round of 96 Monday. Sonja Przybylski finished third at 175 after posting a 95. For East, Alexis Spitzner also shot 95, which put her in a fifth-place tie at 179 overall.
First-year Cedar Falls coach Megan Youngkent earned division coach of the year honors, but passed the accolades on to her golfers.
"I got coach of the year because of the six girls I brought today," said Youngkent. "They did a great job. I just show up and encourage them, and they made me look good today.
"We talked about our goals at the beginning of the season and what we thought we could expect out of ourselves. This was pretty high on our list."
