WATERLOO - It doesn't take much blood in the water to bring out the shark in the Cedar Falls boys' soccer team.

Monday's 10-0 romp over winless Waterloo East may have resembled a feeding frenzy, but the Tigers say their aggressive attitude has been consistent throughout the season.

"We play aggressive every time out," said Tiger midfielder Sam Fransdal, who collected a goal and an assist in the win.

"We give everything every game."

Twelve players notched a goal or assist as the Tigers began the stretch run to substates with their highest score of the season and their fourth shutout.

"I'm pleased with where we're at, and I like where we're sitting," said Cedar Falls coach Josh Printz. "We have two games left … and then we'll see where we seed for substate this week."

Now 8-7-1, the Tigers are in second place in their district and would receive a first-round bye if that status holds.

The Trojans kept Cedar Falls off the scoreboard for the first eight minutes, until a Cody Zey shot off a cross from Wes Boyer began a flurry of three Tiger goals in four minutes.

Andrew Schliesman worked his way into the box on a spin move to make it 2-0, and Boyer punched in his own rebound off a Justin Grider assist to put Cedar Falls up 3-0 in the 12th minute.

The Tigers out-shot East by a 50-5 margin, including 37 shots on goal, adding up to a busy afternoon for Trojan keeper Andres Martinez, who made a number of acrobatic games trying to stem the tide.

"We're trying our best out there," Martinez said. "It kind of hurts walking back to goal and looking at the ball when it just went in. It tears you up mentally."

The Trojans' best opportunity came in the 34th minute when Tiger keeper Alex Clopton stopped a hard shot by East sophomore Admir Babic on an open 15-yard look from the right post.

Two minutes later, though, Tiger sophomore Muhammad Shehata made it 5-0 on an assist from Ben Bremmer, and Cody Weber made it 6-0 with the first of his two goals in the final minute before halftime.

Schleisman lofted a perfectly spotted corner kick that Omeed Kashef headed in to make it 7-0 in the 51st minute, and Cedar Falls closed out the game with goals by Weber, Riley Morris and Weidenbacher.
