CEDAR FALLS - Iowa City West beat Cedar Falls with pitching, defense and hitting Tuesday night.
The Women of Troy got a one-hitter from Mackenzie Haight and a 10-hit offensive attack to win the opening game, 10-0 in five innings, then broke open a tight second game with four runs in the seventh for the sweep, 9-3.
"They kept us off-balance at the plate in the first game," said Cedar Falls coach Tammy Utley.
Alison Jaynes' two-run single in the fourth inning of game two pulled the Tigers within 4-2, but that was as close as they could get.
"We fought back, but had too many errors for the day," said Utley, whose team committed six fielding miscues in the twinbill.
Cedar Falls fell to 18-16 overall and 11-13 in the Mississippi Valley Conference and will host Waverly-Shell Rock today for Senior Night.
