
CEDAR RAPIDS - The Cedar Falls' girls soccer squad fought sixth-ranked Cedar Rapids Washington down to the final second in Wednesday's Class 2A regional semifinal.
Alas, the Tiger girls won't be joining their male classmates in state tournament competition after Washington dealt Cedar Falls a 2-1 defeat Wednesday.
Scores from Ashley Piper and Maddie Hines helped put the Warriors over the top in a match played at Coe College.
Melanie Adrian registered the Tigers' lone goal, off a corner-kick assist by Lindsey Morris.
CEDAR RAPIDS KENNEDY 10, WATERLOO WEST 0 - Spurred by four goals courtesy of Jade Grimm, top-ranked Kennedy stormed past the visiting Wahawks in a Class 2A regional semifinal at Kennedy.
The undefeated Cougars also got a pair of goals from Shauna Happel. Jenny Snook aided the hosts' effort, doling out a pair of assists.
Kennedy scored in the game's first minute before coasting to its decisive win.
West loses four seniors to graduation.
