DUNKERTON - An altered offense propelled NU High past host Dunkerton in Class 1A's first round of regional volleyball action Wednesday night.

The Panthers won in decisive fashion, producing a 25-13, 25-23, 25-19 sweep.

The Panthers were spurred by both Nicole Lopez (10 digs) and Morgan Granger (nine kills).

According to NU coach Kim Bear, "just everything" worked Wednesday. "We probably looked the best we have all year. We only missed four serves.

"We tried a different approach in our offense and it seemed to work."

FAIRBANK - The defending champion Warriors made quick work of Walnut Ridge in a 25-2, 25-7, 25-4 sweep.

Top-ranked Wapsie Valley, which lost just once in the regular season, used its stellar defense to bring the Regents' season to an end.

"We just kept improving for the whole year," said first-year Regents coach Josh Edgerton. "And hopefully in the offseason here they keep working. They've had good attitudes."

ACKLEY - The fourth-ranked Cougars knocked off Northeast Hamilton with ease Wednesday, in a 25-13, 25-17, 25-13 sweep.

"Our serve-reception was very strong," said AGWSR coach Adam Bosch. "They were a pretty tough serving team, but we kept it under control pretty well, and ran the offense.

"And our blocking was pretty strong tonight, too."

"We didn't show any rust," noted Don Bosco coach Kerry Merrifield. "We hadn't played since Oct. 7 … but we just came out and played well."
