
CEDAR RAPIDS - Luther College advanced to the finals of the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament Friday night with a 9-2 win over rival Wartburg.
The Norse received hits from six different batters with Mark Weber going 3-for-4, and Alex Thomas going 2-for-3 with four RBIs, including a two-run homer.
Luther starting pitcher Cody Hyland improved to 7-0. He allowed two runs on eight hits with four strikeouts and three walks. Max Flaig threw a perfect ninth inning to secure the victory.
Wartburg used seven different pitchers in a game that saw a lengthy delay in the fourth inning. Starter Billy Schmitt fell to 6-4 with the loss. Kyle Jones and Ben Roemmich each recorded two hits for the Knights.
Wartburg will face the winner of Buena Vista and Coe at 1 p.m. today. The winner of that game will meet Luther in the finals at 4 p.m. Saturday. Should Luther lose, a second game will be played at 1 p.m. Sunday.
