INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The end to their three-game skid couldn't have come in more welcome fashion for the Waterloo Black Hawks.
Not only did Saturday's 4-3 over Indiana win put a halt to the losing streak, but it came via shootout, avenging a shootout loss to Indiana Friday, and it came against the United States Hockey League's top team.
In the shootout, Waterloo managed to find the back of the net twice - once on a shot from Billy Maday, and once from Keegan Meuer. Those two shots were enough, as Black Hawk goalie Joe Howe kept the Ice from finding the net in the shootout. Howe finished with 20 saves.
The exciting finish came as a result of an Indiana push late in the game. The Black Hawks managed to jump to an early 3-1 lead in the second period, thanks to goals from Craig Smith and Jordan Samuels. The Ice closed the gap several minutes later on a power-play goal from Jake Skjodt. The score remained 3-2 until late in the third period, when the Ice managed to find the back of the net on a shot from T.J. Syner.
The victory pulled the Black Hawks to within 10 points of the division-leading Ice.
Up next for Waterloo is a contest against Sioux Falls in Waterloo on Friday.
