Nakhonratchasima, Thailand - The United States closed out the girls' Youth World Volleyball Championships with a 3-0 loss to the Dominican Republic Sunday, despite a team-high 12 points by Waterloo East junior Haley Eckerman.
Eckerman racked up nine kills, one block and two services aces as Team USA dropped a 25-23, 25-19, 25-23 sweep to finish in 12th place with a tournament record of 2-6.
Eckerman finished the tournament on a personal roll, leading the Americans in scoring in four of their final six matches, including a tournament-best 28 points in the USA's first win, a 3-2 win over Slovakia on July 8. She hit double figures in scoring in the last six matches.
Brazil won the tournament title with a 3-1 championship victory over Serbia.
