DENVER - Two former Waterloo Black Hawks, Boston College's Tim Filangieri and Notre Dame's Garrett Regan, will square off in the NCAA Division I Frozen Four championship game Saturday at Pepsi Coliseum.

Filangieri, a junior defenseman, played for Waterloo from 2003-05, appearing in 118 games, including the playoffs. He registered a plus-4 rating in the Eagles' 6-1 win over North Dakota on Thursday in the semifinals.

This will be Filangieri's fourth national title game in five years. He was a member of Waterloo's Clark Cup championship team in 2004 and will be playing in his third consecutive NCAA final with Boston College.

However, unlike the Black Hawks' victory in 2004 over Tri-City, the Eagles have lost to Wisconsin (2006) and Michigan State (2007) in the last two collegiate finals.

Filangieri is a native of Islip Terrace, N.Y., and graduated from Waterloo West while playing for the Black Hawks.

Regan is a junior forward with the Irish. He had four shots on goal and was a plus-1 in Notre Dame's 5-4 overtime victory over Michigan on Thursday.

Regan, a native of Hastings, Minn., played parts of three seasons with the Black Hawks from 2002 to '05. He had six goals and five assists in the playoffs when Waterloo won the Clark Cup title in 2004.
