
PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - Steph Burns of Cedar Falls shot a seven-over-par 79 as Wartburg settled into 13th place after day one of the NCAA Division III women's golf championship at the Wanamaker Course of the Professional Golf Association Village.
Burns was tied for 19th in the medalist standings, two shots ahead of teammate Kate Thompson of Webster City, who shot an 81. Junior Ellen Rickert of Davenport finished at 83 for the Knights.
Overall, Wartburg posted a 329 and trails leader Wisconsin-Eau Claire by just 17 strokes heading into today's second round. The tournament continues through Saturday.
