WATERLOO - Pete Weber had the glossier resume.
Steve Jaros, however, had the steadier play Sunday.
In the end, Jaros' unwavering effort helped the Illinois native hold off Weber and take home a title at the Midwest Region's Greater Cedar Valley USB Open at Maple Lanes.
Jaros, who has seven career PBA Tour titles to his credit, worked his way into the top eight of the tournament field by Sunday morning before eventually holding off Weber - who has $3.1 million in career earnings - in the final. Earlier in the day, Jaros upended Saturday's leader, Thomas Hess, in the round of eight.
For his efforts Sunday, Jaros, who posted a per-game average of 213.95 and had a pin total of 4,065, took home a $2,400 first prize. Weber reeled in $1,250.
Waterloo native Shannon Buchan, who won last year's PBA regional stop at Cadillac Lanes, was the top Cedar Valley finisher. Buchan, nicknamed "The Bulldog," finished in a tie for ninth with a total pin count of 2,629. In doing so, he earned a $425 paycheck.
Decorah's Quinton Bohlen (23rd place) was Northeast Iowa's next-best finisher in the final standings, while recent Waterloo West grad Nathan Johnson finished in a tie for 27th. Bohlen had a total pin count of 1,534 and Johnson had 1,494.
Jaros now has 36 PBA regional titles in his career. He entered the weekend 23rd in the PBA points race.
