ROCHESTER, Minn. -- Waterloo split a day-night doubleheader with Rochester at Mayo Field Tuesday, as the Bucks won the opener, 5-4, and dropped the finale, 9-6.

In the early half of the twinbill, Bryan Resnick's two-out single in the top of the ninth inning brought in the tying and go-ahead runs for Waterloo. James Jones then earned the save by slamming the door on a bases-loaded Rochester threat in the bottom half.

Waterloo East graduate Derek Ott evened his record at 1-1 with an inning of shutout ball in relief of starter Jeremy Hauer.

Rochester's speed killed the Bucks at the outset of game two. The Honkers stole seven bases in the top half of the first inning on the way to three runs. From there, they built a 9-1 edge and weathered a four-run rally by Waterloo in the ninth

The unusual doubleheader amounted to a home-and-home series played on one field. Game two was originally scheduled for Riverfront Stadium, but flood damage forced the shift to Mayo Field.

Waterloo is idle tonight before going to Battle Creek Thursday.
