VINTON - Vinton-Shellsburg won its own Early Bird boys' track meet here Friday, while Union High topped the area contingent.

The Vikings racked up 117 points, easily surpassing runner-up Western Dubuque at 89.

Union High came in fourth with 51 points. The Knights' shuttle hurdle relay team was victorious, and Seth Woodson finished first at 1,600 meters. Zach Purdy won the 400 hurdles.

Waterloo Columbus settled for two points in the team standings. Sprinter Nate Ott put the Sailors on the board with a fifth in the 100-meter dash.
