EUGENE, Ore. - Two University of Northern Iowa track and field standouts came up short in their bids Sunday to earn Team USA berths.
Competing at the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, Tyler Mulder finished eighth in the 800-meter finals, while Ehi Oamen was 12th in the high jump.
Mulder, a senior from Orange City, ran a 1:47.98. Winner Nicholas Symmonds' posted a blistering 1:45.86 time. Oamen, a junior, cleared 7 feet, 1/2 inch in the high jump. Tora Harris won that event with a leap of 7-7.
Dorian Ulrey, who began his college career at UNI before following former Panther head coach Chris Bucknam to Arkansas, was third in the 1,500 meters in 3:42.84.
The top three finishers in each event earned berths on the Team USA squad that will compete at the IAAF World Championships in Berlin, Germany, in August.
