LaPORTE CITY - Jared Wauters scored three touchdowns, including a school-record 90-yard pass from Steve McGarvey, as the Knights rolled to a 3-0 start to their season.

The big numbers for Union included five receptions for 153 yards by Wauters, 17 carries for 143 yards and two TDs by Wes Burnside and 165 yards and two TDs on 7-for-15 passing by McGarvey.

OELWEIN - Matt Kastli broke loose for a 95-yard run from scrimmage as the Huskies broke into the win column in a big way.

Kastli finished with 200 yards and two touchdowns on 13 carries, while Huskie quarterback Paul Yokas finished 4-for-7 for 79 yards and two touchdowns.

SUMNER - Gage Mohs ran for three long touchdowns to highlight a 398-yard night for the Cougar offense.

Mohs scored on runs on 17, 19 and 60 yards as S-F (3-0) piled up 316 yards on the ground and 82 through the air in its District 4 opener.

"It was a big first step in the district," said Cougar coach Brad Mohs.

DENVER - Cyclones running back Brad Franzen took the opening kickoff 90 yards to the house to jump-start a lopsided victory over the Huskies.

Franzen also rushed for four touchdowns and 98 yards, while Aaron Elbert rushed for 149 yards on 16 carries and scored a touchdown passing and another running.

The Huskies were led by Zach Larson, who completed 7 of 14 passes for 133 yards and one touchdown.

ARLINGTON - Starmont's two-point conversion pass was successful and Maquoketa Valley's was not, making the difference in a District 4 nailbiter.

Starmont tailback Vinnie Otdoerfer rolled up 191 yards on 40 carries and scored the Stars' lone TD on an 18-yard run in the third period. Ethan Moses' pass to Brady Janssen then gave Starmont an 8-0 lead.

With just over two minutes to play in the fourth quarter, Maquoketa Valley hit paydirt on a 60-yard completion from Tanner Ellison to Emerson Ries, but Starmont's defense held firm on the conversion attempt.

Redhawk quarterback Brendon Boerm went 6-10 with 122 passing yards and two touchdowns, while Dylan Youel led the ground game with 88 yards and two TDs on 18 attempts.

ROCKFORD - Scott Paulus found Riley Paulus open on a deep route for a 45-yard touchdown strike with 45 seconds to play to lift the Warriors to 3-0.

Paulus was also Rockford's leading rusher, with 114 yards on 25 carries. Evan Johnson carried 26 times for 133 yards and AGWSR's lone TD.

The Cougars fell to 0-3.
