CRESCO - Former Waterloo Courier sports editor Kevin Evans will be inducted into the Iowa Wrestling Hall of Fame Foundation Monday at the Cresco Country Club.

Evans will join three former standout wrestlers - Lisbon's Scott Morningstar, Mount Vernon's Greg Randall and Osage's Mark Schwab - all four-time state champions - as part of the 2008 HOF Class.

Evans retired from the Courier in 2006 after a 40-year career, the last 16 as either sports editor or executive sports editor.

During his time at the Courier, Evans never missed a session of the Iowa state tournament and wrote approximately 1,000 stories chronicling the achievements of individuals, teams and the color of the tourney. He saw and wrote about every four-time Iowa state champion except Britt's Bob Steenlage, the first four-timer in state history.

Evans also covered NCAA Division II and NJCAA national tournaments, as well as 17 NCAA Division I tournaments. He wrote features on Olympic champions Dan Gable, Cael Sanderson and John Smith.

Morningstar won state championships at 98, 105, 119 and 126 between 1977 and 1980 while compiling a 115-1-1 high school mark. He later wrestled for Northern Iowa.

From 1979-82, Randall won individual titles at 98, 112, 126 and 132 for the Mustangs. He was a two-time Junior National champion and was part of four NCAA team championships at Iowa.

Schwab won 106 of 107 high school matches while winning titles at 98, 105, 112 and 119 from 1982-85. Schwab also won four Junior National championships and later won 115 matches for UNI, where he was a two-time all-American.

The candidates are chosen annually by the Foundation's selection committee, which is chaired by Iowa High School Athletic Association administrator David Harty. Other members of the committee are Dan Gable, Chuck Yagla, Jim Gibbons, Jim Miller, Bill Roths and Don Gooder.
