IOWA CITY - Iowa's defending 165-pound national wrestling champion Mark Perry had arthroscopic surgery on his right knee this week, announced head coach Tom Brands Wednesday.

Perry (13-2) has missed three straight meets since injurying the knee in a victory over then top-ranked Eric Tannenbaum of Michigan in the semifinals of the NWCA National Duals Jan. 13.

The senior from Stillwater, Okla., is expected to miss the next 2 to 3 weeks.

"We had the best doctor on the planet do the surgery," Brands said. "We know he's in good hands with Dr. Ned Amendola."

Meanwhile, Iowa sophomore Brent Metcalf was named the Big Ten Wrestler of the Week for the second consecutive week after scoring victories over the fifth- and sixth-ranked wrestlers - Ohio State's Lance Palmer and Penn State's Bubba Jenkins - last weekend.

Metcalf (18-1) is ranked No. 1 at 149.

Top-ranked Iowa (13-1) hosts No. 10 Northwestern at 7 p.m. Sunday in Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
