CEDAR FALLS - A dismissed University of Northern Iowa football player has been arrested by Cedar Falls police.

Christopher Parsons, 22, of 610 1/2 W. Second St., was arrested today for two counts of probihited acts, each a Class C felony, for obtaining Hydrocodone, a schedule II controlled substance.

On Oct 30, Cedar Falls Police were dispatched to the Hy-Vee Pharmacy on the report of someone who had been obtaining Hydrocodone using fraudulent prescriptions.

It was determined that the prescriptions had been taken illegally from a local doctor's office. Through the investigation it was found that Parsons, age 22, had been the person who had passed the forged prescriptions. Parsons also admitted to police during an interview that he had passed the prescriptions.

A class C felony is punishable up to 10 years in prison, and a fine of at least one thousand dollars, but not more than ten thousand dollars.

Parsons was the starting safety on the top-ranked UNI football team until he was dismissed for undisclosed reasons Nov. 1. UNI officials said he was dismissed for a violation of team rules.

Parsons was a senior from Moore, Okla, and a three-year starter. He had started 23 consecutive games for the Panthers and had 29 tackles and three interceptions this season.

Parsons started all 15 games of his sophomore year in 2005, when Northern Iowa advanced to the Division I-AA national title game. In 2006, the Oklahoma native was second in the nation in interceptions, with six.

This season, Parsons anchored the Panthers' secondary for much of the regular season, and made the key, game-saving tackle in Northern Iowa's 30-24 homecoming win over No. 7 Southern Illinois. He also had an interception earlier in that contest.
