DES MOINES -- Charles City's state tournament team placed three players on the Class 3A squad as the Iowa Newspaper Association named its All-State baseball teams today.

Outfielder Adam Feller, who hit .436 and led Charles City with 11 home runs, was named to the Class 3A first team.

Feller was joined by Comet teammates Josh Becker (.346, 12 victories) on the second team and Chase Wilkinson (.438) on the third team.

Oelwein pitcher Colin Morgan was named to the Class 3A second team with a 10-2 record and 0.98 earned run average.

State finalist Don Bosco placed two representatives on the Class 1A squad. Clay Welter, who batted .506 and led the Dons with 49 runs batted in, was one of just two sophomores in any class to make the first team. Senior catcher Ryan Schares (.418, 39 RBIs) made the third team.

Named to the Class 1A second team was Janesville infielder Bo Murley, who hit for an astronomical .649 average with six wins as a pitcher. Tripoli first baseman Tanner Shonka (.452) made the Class 1A third team.

Three area standouts were Class 2A first-teamers: junior catcher Nick Hutchens (.443) of BCLUW, junior outfielder Nolan Nuss (.517) of Sumner-Fredericksburg, and junior utility man Scott Benson (.505) of Gladbrook Reinbeck.

After leading Waterloo Columbus into the state tournament with a .433 average and 18 doubles, senior outfielder Brett Watkins earned Class 2A second-team recognition.

Also making the 2A second team were Hudson first baseman John Buzynski (.418) and Starmont outfielder Austin Butler (.404). Senior Gladbrook-Reinbeck infielder Jake Petersen (.505) was named to the Class 2A third team.
