INDIANOLA - Wartburg repeated as both men's and women's IIAC outdoor track and field champions at the Conference meet held on Friday and Saturday at Simpson College.

The Luther women finished in third place with a team score of 99 points. The men's team placed fourth with a total of 85 points.
The outdoor track title is the eighth straight and eleventh overall for the Wartburg women. The men captured their fifth overall title.
Nine NCAA automatic qualifying marks were set by the Lady Knights. In the 400-meter dash, Hannah Baker finished with a time of 54.56 seconds. Heidi Porter finished the 800-meters in 2:11.46 and Lucy Joseph ran the 100 hurdles in 14.32 seconds in the preliminaries.
In the 3000-meter steeplechase, Luther's Janet Dobyns posted a time of 10:32.64.
Wartburg's Brian Chenoweth took first in the 5000-meters and placed second in the 10,000-meters. Karl Vogel and Kyle Peters finished first and second respectively in the high jump. Patrick Johnson also took first in the 3,000 steeplechase.
Luther's Matthew Busche won the 10,000 meters and also placed second in the 3,000 steeplechase.
For the second straight year, Wartburg head coach Marcus Newsom was named IIAC men's and women's Coach of the Year. This was the eighth straight year Newsom has been named women's Coach of the Year and the fourth time he has been named men's Coach of the Year.
Coach Newsom credited a strong first day showing as an integral part of the men's success. "On the men's side we are normally coming from behind heading into the second day," said Newsom. "It was important to have a great first day, and the men stepped up." "The men lost indoors for the first time in four years and I think that gave them extra motivation."
Newsom also had high praise for the women's effort on Friday. "The women had a great performance on Friday," said Newsom. "We had at least three qualifiers in the preliminaries in the 100-meter, 200-meter, 400-meter, 100-meter hurdles, 400-meter hurdles and 800-meter hurdles." "This gave us a huge advantage heading into Saturday."
