WAVERLY - Methodist University, no stranger to success in women's golf, made it 11 consecutive NCAA Division III championships Friday with a 39-stroke victory over DePauw University at Centennial Oaks Golf Club.

"The 11 didn't even pop into my mind," Methodist coach Vici Pate said. "They're all so different, but this is pretty speical. It was a great one for the kids, and we had a great time getting to this point."

The Monarchs, who shot a 304 Friday, also finished 1-2 in the individual race with Susan Martin fighting off Katie Dick and Franklin College's Katie Tewell for medalist honors. Martin's four-round total of six-over par was a meet record.

"I was just trying to hold it together during the last day," Martin said. "I tried to remain focused on each shot during the round.

"It was great for me to be able to wind up the last day on the back nine. I've always played better in that situation, because I've felt like I've had to make up some shots from the front."

Methodist has now 17 of the last 18 national titles.

"In terms of tradition, this means a lot," Pate said. "For the players, when they join the program, they know there's a long tradition behind the program."

Wartburg, which entered the final round in 10th, finished in that position. The Knights posted a team score of 320 Friday - their best round of the tournament.

Kate Thompson led the Knights with a 12th-place finish after a final-round 77. Steph Burns concluded 37th after an 82 Friday.

Daina Deery and Jordan Galles each registered their best rounds of the tournament with an 80 and 81, respectively.
