Where: Cedar Rapids Ice Arena

Black Hawk notes: Waterloo dropped a penalty-filled contest, 3-2, on the road to Green Bay last Saturday. The Black Hawks and Gamblers each had 11 power plays in the game. Waterloo gave an opponent 11 power-plays just one time in all of 2007-08.

It may have been a good omen that rookie forward Ben Miller scored in his initial USHL game last week. Three times in the last four seasons, the Waterloo's leading rookie scorer " Cory Quirk in 2004-05, Josh Turnbull in 2006-07 and Nick Larson last year " scored in their USHL debuts.

Injury report: Defenseman George Hughes (out). Forward Nick Larson (day-to-day). Forward J.T. Brown (on 45-day injured reserve).

RoughRider notes: Cedar Rapids outshot Indiana, 34-19, in its season-opening 4-2 win over the Ice in Indianapolis. The RoughRiders forced Indiana to commit 15 penalties. Forwards Nick Oddo and Kyle Flanagan each had a goal and an assist.

Quoting Black Hawks' head coach P.K. O'Handley:

On Green Bay game, "We kind of let the game come to us, and that is not how we play here."

On the team's outlook, "You can see it is there. We are just missing somethings mentally, but once it all comes together, this team is going to be fun to watch."

On Futures draft Tuesday (Oct. 14), "It is a pretty important day. Maybe not so much for next year, but for two years down the road when projecting out. It is very difficult. I think our staff has done a pretty good job over the past couple years and we're going to have to do it again."

Next up: at Indiana (Oct. 17).
