MOLINE, Ill. - Wartburg College's baseball season came to an end Friday with a 7-5 loss to Linfield College at the Division III NCAA regional tournament.
The Knights couldn't overcome a five-run Linfield third inning and suffered their second tournament loss to be eliminated.
David Bachofner homered and had a run-scoring double for Linfield (32-11) to back winning pitcher Reese McCulley (7-1).
Trailing 6-1, Wartburg (27-15) rallied with a pair of runs in each of the seventh and eighth innings, but couldn't get any closer.
Zach Nagel went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, while A.J. Lewis also had two hits for the Knights.
Luke Albert took the loss for Wartburg, which captured its 12th straight Iowa Conference title this season.
