
WATERLOO - A legendary lineup of wrestlers and stars from other professional sports will grace the links at Irv Warren Golf Course Friday, July 10 for the Dan Gable International Wrestling Institute and Museum's 10th annual Celebrity Golf Tournament.
Headlining the event is Gable, the Waterloo native and Olympic gold medalist whose accomplishments as an amateur wrestler and as head coach at the University of Iowa are unparalleled.
Other notable participants from the sport of wrestling include amateur and professional legend Dan Hodge, for whom the Hodge Trophy is named, along with Olympic champions Tom Brands, Bill Smith, Ed Banach and Randy Lewis, Hall of Famers Chuck Yagla, Sherwyn Thorson and Mark Ironside, Hall of Fame coach Bob Siddens, UNI head coach Brad Penrith, Hall of Fame official Mike Allen and NCAA champion, NFL star and mixed martial arts star Carlton Haselrig.
Former professional wrestling legends and Hall of Famers Baron Von Raschke and Nick Bockwinkel will also be on hand, as will UNI graduate and ex-Major League baseball standout Eddie Watt, former Major League umpires Don Denkinger and Larry Young, former University of Iowa basketball player Kevin Boyle, Iowa State assistant football coaches Courtney Messingham and Bill Bleil and NFL players Tavian Banks and Bill Windauer.
The event begins with a noon shotgun start, and the field is limited to 120 golfers. Cost is $100 per golfer. For more information, call (319) 233-0745.
