
FINDLAY, Ohio - Just three strokes separated Upper Iowa University's top four golfers Tuesday as the Peacocks finished the opening day of the NCAA Division II national tournament in a ninth-place tie.
The Peacocks, who were led by freshman McKenzie Holthaus' 79, finished with 321 strokes, 20 behind first-day leader Tarleton State.
While Holthaus was tied for 26th in the medalist race, sisters Rochelle Schmidt and Rachael Schmidt shot 80s for Upper Iowa while Jill Preeshl added an 82. Tarleton State's Carla Cooper set the pace individually with a two-under round of 70.
Second-round action takes place today with the final two rounds Friday and Saturday at the Findlay Country Club course.
