WATERLOO - Cassie Knutson drove in seven runs as Waterloo West swept Iowa City High 5-0 and 11-7 Thursday in a Mississippi Valley Conference doubleheader at West.

The Wahawks (24-16 overall, 15-11 in the Mississippi Valley) finished the regular season on a six-game winning streak.

Knutson hit a grand slam in the opener, her fifth blast of the season, and drove in three more runs in the nightcap.

Rebecca Doering was 3-for-4 with a triple, three runs and three RBIs in the nightcap.

West is off until Monday when it will host either East or Cedar Falls in a Class 4A regional game at 7 p.m.

LINN-MAR 8-1, CEDAR FALLS 0-2 ? Linn-Mar standout and University of Northern Iowa recruit Jaye Hutchinson dominated the first game, but the Tigers shut down a late Lions rally in the nightcap for a Mississippi Valley Conference split.

Linn-Mar put three runs on the scoreboard in the first inning of the opener, and Hutchinson took it from there. She allowed only a bunt single to Alison Jaynes in the fifth inning and struck out 13 Cedar Falls batters.

Tigers pitcher Shyann Beach, who took the loss in the opener, bounced back to throw six shutout innings in the second game. Jillian Zaputil and Beach were both 2-for-3 with a double.

The Tigers finished the MVC season 11-13 and will take an 18-17 overall record into Saturday's first-round Class 4A regional game against metro rival Waterloo East at Robinson-Dresser Complex.

Linn-Mar finished 16-10 in conference play and takes a 24-14 record into regionals.
