CEDAR FALLS - Thousands of outdoor enthusiasts will pass through the UNI-Dome and McLeod Center March 7-9 when the 33rd Eastern Iowa Sportshow makes its annual stop on the University of Northern Iowa campus.

Some may need to make a return trip to take in everything this year's outdoor recreation extravaganza, which is being sponsored by Toyota Trucks, has to offer.

The three-day agenda is packed with a variety of entertainment and exhibits.

Eastern Iowa recreational vehicle dealers will showcase the newest styles of tent campers, expandable trailers, travel trailers, toy haulers, fifth-wheels, conversion vans and motorhomes.

Marine dealers will offer final show promotions before the spring boating season while displaying everything from aluminum and fiberglass fishing boats to pontoons, family runabouts, deckboats, ski and wakeboard boats, personal watercraft, canoes and kayaks.

The show is also an opportunity for families and fishing groups to plan vacations and outdoor adventures. Exhibits include fishing camps, fly-in outposts, family resorts, campgrounds, canoe outfitters, sportfishing charters, tourism destinations, hunting outfitters and more from across the Midwest and Canada.

Retailers will have plenty of bargains for shoppers interested in fishing tackle, hunting equipment, boating accessories and gear for camping, kayaking and scuba diving. Motorcycles, ATVs, golf cars and truck accessories will also be available.

Area wildlife artists, art retailers and taxidermists will display their work Saturday and Sunday on the south mezzanine of the Dome.

In addition, one of the most popular whitetail deer displays in the country is scheduled for a UNI-Dome visit. Owned by Dan Cole of Minnesota, "Wild Whitetails" features 20 unique deer mounts.

"We wanted to give people something different to see. We wanted to give the viewer more than they expected," said Cole. "I feel that we certainly have accomplished that."

Cole didn't focus on the largest bucks in the world, although the average score of the deer on display is 230 inches.

Meanwhile, an extensive seminar lineup will offer tips for taking trophy game and fish. The lineup includes television personality Dan Sura, walleye pro Ted Takasaki, catfish guide Denny Halgren, Canadian fishing guide Tasmin Kaliska, turkey hunting expert Jim Fink, north country outfitter Darrin Siefken, RV enthusiast David Solberg, whitetail deer specialist Marlene Odahlen-Hinz, Alaska hunting veteran Steve Finegan and DNR fisheries biologist Paul Sleeper.

Seminar subjects range from fishing for bass, walleye, northern pike, panfish and catfish to campfire cooking, Boundary Waters trips, fishing from a kayak, purchasing an RV, scouting whitetail, hunting turkeys and fishing at Iowa's Lake MacBride.

The show also includes nine stage shows (three each day) featuring Johnny Peers and the Muttville Comix, along with comedy juggler T.J.Howell and his unicycling sons, Hunter and Carson.

In addition, live trout fishing, a dirt track racing simulator, virtual fishing and an antique boat display are scheduled, plus a trophy whitetail antler scoring contest Saturday and Sunday. Hunters can have current season or historical racks measured by official scorers and entered into competition. The entry fee is $10 for the contest.

Show hours are 2-9 p.m. Friday, 9:30 a.m.-8:30 p.m. Saturday and 10:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Sunday, when the first 200 youth 12 and under will receive free Plano "Take Me Fishing" tackle boxes. Admission is $6 for adults and $4 for youth ages 10-15. A special matinee price of $3 is offered Friday from 2-5 p.m.
