CEDAR FALLS -- Garth Brooks fans who couldn't score tickets to one of the country king's Kansas City, Mo., concerts can rest easy.
The last performance of Brooks' nine-show series will be simulcast Wednesday night at movie theaters across the country, including College Square Cinema in Cedar Falls.
One auditorium of the theater will broadcast the concert in real time. An encore performance will be play on Thursday. Tickets are $10.
"A lot of people are ecstatic about purchasing tickets, we've gotten a lot of phone calls about it," said Mike Gritzmacher, general manager at College Square Cinema. "They are surprised and happy to see it coming here."
More than 300 movie theaters will air the concert from Kansas City's Sprint Center Wednesday. The simulcasts are sponsored by National CineMedia, a company that supplies pre-show programming for movie theater chains.
"This is the first time we've tried something like this," said Carlo Petrick, communications manager for Marcus Theatres, which owns College Square. "Ticket sales have been very strong for the Garth Brooks concert across our circuit. People are excited."
At the Cedar Falls theater, roughly 70 fans have reserved spots at the Wednesday event. The auditorium will hold 227 people.
More simulcast performances are scheduled at College Square, Gritzmacher said. On Dec. 2 patrons can watch a Christmas concert broadcast from St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn. On Dec. 15 the theater is airing Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet" live from The Metropolitan Opera in New York. An encore performance of that event is scheduled for Dec. 16.
