CEDAR FALLS - I'd like to urge all Cedar Falls voters to examine the published positions of David Wieland and Darrel Porter before casting their votes in the coming election for Cedar Falls councilman at-large representative. There is a striking difference between the two and an obvious choice for the best-qualified candidate.
Wieland presents clearly articulated strategies that address the major issues before our city. Wieland's concerns include responsible development, a balanced budget, support for neighborhood organizations and the integrity of the land use plan. His profile is of an individual who appreciates the needs of Cedar Falls and one who has worked to elaborate ways of achieving goals.
In abrupt contrast, Porter shows no evidence of having given any of these issues any thought. In fact, of two major components of his platform, merging services and the burn ban, the first is a fantasy and the second a non-issue.
We need someone with the ability to understand and creatively engage the matters before the council. Wieland is the clear winner here. Residents of Cedar Falls with an optimistic view of our city's future can further their cause by voting for David Wieland on Tuesday.
