TRIPOLI - A benefit Saturday will benefit a community member diagnosed earlier this year with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.

The event for Larry Schuldt, 57, will be from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Tripoli Opera House.

"We walked the Bremer County Relay for Life for years, never expecting cancer would come into our lives," his wife, Val, said.

The Bremer County Chapter of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans will provide matching funds. Proceeds from the fundraiser will help pay the family's expenses not covered by health insurance.

Food will be available from 4 to 7 p.m., with the Little Big Band from Cedar Falls providing Dixieland music during the meal. People may bid in a silent auction until 7 p.m. A live auction will be at 7:30 p.m.

A raffle also will be held. Raffle items include a 32-inch high definition LCD television, a quilt and a Terry Redlin print.

Auction items include a baby grand piano, quilts, quilt racks, a box of boneless pork loins, a football signed by the Green Bay Packers, a Chicago Bears mini helmet signed by Brian Urlacher, homemade pies, Wartburg and University of Northern Iowa athletic tickets, two tool sets and more.

For information or to make a donation, call Luke Schuldt at (319) 231-0724, Mike Tripolino at (319) 231-2320 or Darrel Mixdorf at (319) 882-4802.
