WAVERLY - The Sumner teen accused of killing an 18-year-old man and assaulting another person is pleading not guilty.

Sebastian Trimble, 16, entered his written plea last week in Bremer County District Court. He is charged with first-degree murder for the stabbing death of Raymond Randall of Sumner on Aug. 4. Trimble is also charged with willful injury for allegedly assaulting Zachary Moran, 18, of Sumner.

Police and medics responded to Moran's house at 409 E. First St. at about 2:45 a.m. after receiving a report that Moran had been assaulted. A few minutes later, they received another call that Randall had been stabbed.

An autopsy showed Randall was stabbed several times. His cause of death was a wound to the heart, according to the Iowa Medical Examiner's Office.

Trimble's attorney, Melissa Anderson-Seeber, has filed a motion to transfer the case back to juvenile court. The motion argues Trimble's age is the main factor to consider.

Judge Christopher Foy has not ruled on the request, though a hearing was held last week.

Trimble is being held at the Bremer County Jail, where Randall's older brother, Lawrence Hamby, 25, of Sumner, is held. Hamby is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Paul McKinney of Sumner.

Sheriff Dewey Hildebrandt said the two are in separate parts of the jail. Detention officers are also mindful to make sure Trimble and Hamby do not have any contact while out of their cells, he added.

"We will make sure that doesn't happen," Hildebrandt said.

Hamby's trial is scheduled Sept. 16. No dates have been scheduled yet for Trimble's trials.
