TAMA (AP) - Gamblers under 21 can start playing poker June 1 at the Meskwaki casino near Tama.
The tribal council approved a plan earlier this month for 18-to-20-year-olds to play poker games, such as Texas Hold 'em. The casino announced the starting date Monday.
Underage players will have to wear a security identification bracelet.
Iowa's legal gambling age is 21.
The Meskwaki casino is the only one in Iowa allowing gambling for younger players. The change is possible because players, not the casino, provide the game's jackpot when they buy into the game.
The tribe in April also voted to allow the sale of alcohol in its casino. It could take up to a year to finish the licensing process, however.
