WAVERLY - Receding flood waters allowed city officials to reopen a couple of bridges Wednesday. Officials, however, warn residents to resist the temptation to move sandbags.
Heavy rain may also raise the Cedar River, which measured 15 feet at 2 p.m. Wednesday, up again, according to the Bremer County Emergency Operations Center. Additional precipitation may also slow restoration of utilities.
On Wednesday, water levels receded enough to reopen the Bremer Avenue Bridge, Horton Road and Horton Road bridge. The Third Street Southeast bridge will remain closed until authorities can have it inspected.
The city also released additional information about possible financial assistance, volunteer opportunities, debris cleanup and counseling services. For information, go online at www.waverlyia.com.
