MAYNARD -- A driver and dozens of pigs escaped injury Monday when a semi tipped over in Fayette County.
Mario Voves, 49, of Waukon, was driving a 2006 International and trailer owned by Waukon Feed Ranch and was hauling a full load of market hogs, according to the sheriff's department.
Voves apparently lost control while turning south off 100th Street onto P Avenue, and the semi overturned on a shoulder, striking a light pole.
The incident happened at about 7:35 a.m.
According to the sheriff's office, Voves was not injured and the hogs were safely unloaded and placed on trailers. Authorities charged Voves with failure to maintain control.
The semi and trailer were considered a total loss. The light pole sustained about $5,000 in damage.
The Iowa State Patrol and Maynard Fire and Rescue assisted at the scene.
