GRUNDY CENTER - The Grundy County Sheriff's office and the Grundy County Attorney's office have received numerous reports of a fraudulent lottery scheme.
Citizens have reported getting letters telling them they've won a lottery. The victims are sent fraudulent cashier checks and told they must mail a money order to a Canadian address to claim the remainder of the winnings.
But there are no winnings and the victim loses their money. The Grundy County Sheriff's office has been in contact with U.S. Postal Service inspectors concerning the recent incidents.
Anyone receiving a letter that they suspect may be fraudulent is being urged to notify the Grundy County Sheriff's office at (319) 824-6933.
